In the beginning, the caravanserai became the center of the spice trade, which was imported from India to Iran via the spice road.

In addition to the cells and porches, the courtyard of the caravanserai was also used to hold seasonal and local markets, as during the Naseri era, the Vakil caravanserai was one of the most prosperous and crowded markets in the heart of Kerman. At the end of the Qajar period and then in the first Pahlavi period, cells were allocated for the sale of cloth, and weaving was one of the active occupations in the caravanserai. In addition, the rooms on the first floor were used as a store and a sales office, and some of them were also used for stocking goods.
